EMEPA preps for customer power outages
The East Mississippi Electric Power Association crews are on standby if needed to repair power outages for customers. With icy weather conditions over the next day or so, Director of Marketing and Communications Julie Boles says they do expect the number of outages to increase. As of this morning, they’ve already begun seeing people without power.
“We have all of our crews on standby. We are ready to respond to outages as they start coming in," said Boles. "We’ve already started to see those roll in as about mid morning this morning we’ve started to see outages come in. So our crews will be working around the clock to get those outages restored.”
Icy conditions are extremely hazardous when it comes to outages. The ice can weigh down power lines and that can cause a widespread outage.
“Make sure you stay informed of the conditions in your area--the road conditions. If you do not have to be out, please stay inside," said Boles. "Stay indoors where it’s warm and safe. Even if your power goes out, you are safer at home than trying to venture out in these conditions.”
Boles says safety tips on their website for icy weather as well as a place to report power outages.
