YOU PROBABLY HAVE NOTICED HIGHER PRICES FOR DAIRY, AND OTHER FARM FOODS. OUR DANNY TODD DIVES DEEPER INTO THE IMPACT INFLATION HAVING LOCALLY.
With the prices of eggs skyrocketing and overall inflation impacting most of the country, we speak to local businesses to see how they're handling the situation. And restaurants are those that are bearing the most burden on the subject. We speak with Weidmann’s restaurant in Meridian.
CHARLES FRAZIER- OWNER OF WEIDMANN’S says "It's extraordinary. I mean, we've never seen prices increase over the last few years that we have. Eggs, for example. Ten years ago, we were paying ten, $0.11 per egg. Currently, we're paying $0.50 per egg."
Weidmann's owner Charles Frazier calls it unfortunate that the rising cost affects so many people, but he hopes that soon everything will settle down.
CHARLES FRAZIER says "We have raised prices over the last couple of years twice. I believe we're probably due for another increase just because prices have maintained the high level that they've been at. I'm hoping that we'll see a bit of a drop in dairy and also in eggs over the next year."
Having the customer's best interests in mind can sometimes hurt the business itself. But Frazier said it's important for him to do his very best so employees, customers, and families are all looked out for.
CHARLES FRAZIER says ''Right now, it's interesting because we are we're having a great year. I had a great year last year and sold more than we ever have, but our profit margin has gone down significantly due to the high costs."
THE HOPE FOR BETTER DAYS HAS MADE FRAZIER RELUCTANT TO MAKE DRASTIC CHANGES
CHARLES FRAZIER adds "Right now, it's interesting because we are we're having a great year. I had a great year last year and sold more than we ever have, but our profit margin has gone down significantly due to the high costs."
