Interim Police Chief Appointed In Meridian
In Meridian, the city council has approved the appointment of a new interim police chief for the Meridian Police Department.
At yesterday’s council meeting, the council voted 3 to 1 for Charles Coleman to serve as interim chief.Coleman will be taking the place of Lewis Robbins, who resigned from the interim chief role in April.
Eager to take on the new role, Coleman comes with more than twenty years of experience with Mississippi Highway Patrol.
“My Philosophy on serving in leadership is it doesn’t matter whether I’m the interim of the chief
or the assistant chief, you want to make your department better. So, that when the person that they appoint comes in all they have to do is step in and go to work, its better for you. So, I don’t look at it as interim being part-time –I’m actually interim, but I’m serving full time. The citizens
of Meridian is paying my salary for full-time; they’re not paying me on an interim basis so I’m going to do my best to serve Meridian as best I know how”, said Charles Coleman.
Coleman will serve a 90-day term as interim chief and shared that he is seeking the permanent chief position.
