Meridian Preparing To Further Reopen Under The Safe Return Order

Today in Meridian, Mayor Percy Bland announced that the city will be reopening along with the state, under Governor Tate Reeves newly issued Safe Return Order.

The safe return order will allow for ballparks, movie theaters, libraries and museums to safely reopen , and provides new updates to social distancing guidelines for indoor and outdoor recreation, and businesses. Under this order it is encouraged that those considered to be vulnerable to COVID-19 continue to shelter in place. Mayor Bland advises residents to proceed with caution as the city reopens next week.

“The governor’s orders are asking all businesses to have their staff and their team to wear masks inside of the businesses and we are asking that customers show the same respect and kindness and wear their masks, its just the right thing to do, and you know, it’s the safe thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do.” Percy Bland, mayor of Meridian.

The city of Meridian will continue to have a curfew of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. following Monday June 1, when the safe return order goes into effect.
