The Meridian Public-School District voted to approve renovations for the track field at Meridian High School Ray Stadium.
“It’s also used at Meridian High School for the students to use during P.E. It’s not just our specific track team and to the community occasionally. We have community members that want to come out and utilize the track for fitness as well,” said Clay Sims MPS director of operations.
According to school officials, over time the track wears and requires maintenance periodically.
“It was originally installed in 2010. I believe, it had a lifetime of about eight years,” Sims said.
Officials say the cost to renovate the track is estimated around $101,000 and construction will soon start.
“The repairs are set to begin early October to be completed in early November. We’ve got a window there where we’ve got two away games which will allow the work to take place at that time,” Sims said.
The track is made up of a poly rubber blend and the officials say the new face lift will make the track stand out even more.
“It certainly provides a more cosmetic appearance for the community. With the degrading surface it puts a positive light on the community,” Sims said.
