Meridian Religious Leaders Provide Message Of Unity And Peace

In Meridian, two local religious leaders sat down and expressed their concerns surrounding issues within the local community and throughout the country, hoping to spread a message of unity.

Pastor Melvin Hendricks with First Union Baptist Church and Dr. Mark Allison, the Minister of Music at Calvary Baptist Church, have been friends for more than a decade, and served together in the US Navy as chaplains at NAS Meridian.

Today, with their friendship, they hope to spread a message of unity, in light of recent protests against social injustices and gun violence in Meridian, through their connection with Christianity.

“I think that through that peace that Christ offers, we can find reconciliation, not only in our family, but between races, and cities and the state, and the country --is through our faith in Christ”, said Dr. Mark Allison, the Minister of Music at Calvary Baptist Church.

“I believe that the church still plays a vital role in the lives and history of humankind”, said Dr. Melvin Hendricks, Pastor Melvin Hendricks at First Union Baptist Church.

First Union Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church had planned unite and hold an Easter musical this year, but it was canceled due to the pandemic and hope to hold it again next year.
