MERIDIAN’S FIRST MURDER TAKES PLACE WITHIN THE FIRST 22 DAYS OF THE NEW YEAR. OUR DANNY TODD FINDS OUT HOW THE POLICE DEPARTMENT PLANS TO COMBAT THIS ISSUE.
Meridian Police Department investigates its first murder of 2023. And that leaves the residents of Meridian asking what's going on and what's being done to stop the violence in the Queen City.
CHANETTA STEVENS- INVESTIGATOR/PIO says "A male subject was found dead at the 2100 block of 18th Avenue with multiple gunshot wounds."
Investigator Chanetta Stevens tells Twin States News that the identification of the victim is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified.
CHANETTA STEVENS says "We understand that the citizens have concerns about the crimes that have been committed here in the city of Meridian. We would like the public to know that these are not random acts of violence, but they are known associates. With that being said the plan moving forward with the Meridian Police Department is we want to institute new crime units to help combat some of the violence."
STEVENS ADDS AMONG THOSE BIG PLANS FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IS TO INSTITUTE A REAL LIVE CRIME CENTER, AND THEY SAY WITH ALL THE NEW PLANS OF ACTION THEY HOPE TO SEE REAL CHANGE IN THE FUTURE.
CHANETTA STEVENS says "As you all know, we are low on manpower. We hear your concerns and we are listening to your concerns, acknowledging the problem is only half the battle."
STEVENS SAID IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW MAY WANT TO HELP BE A PART OF THE CHANGE, YOU CAN COME TO THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND PICK UP AN APPLICATION. SHE ALSO ADD’S THAT IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE MURDER IN QUESTION TO PLEASE CALL CRIME STOPPERS AT 1-855-485-8477 OR MERIDIAN PD AT 601-485-1893.
