Meridian Ward 2 Residents Take To The Polls For Special Election
Today in Meridian, many Ward 2 residents rushed to the polls to vote in the special election to fill the Ward 2 city council seat.
Ward 2 residents were able to cast their vote from 7am to 7pm at The Velma Young Community Center, The Meridian Little Theater or Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Voters were required to wear masks and orange cones were placed to ensure social distancing for voters in line at each precinct. The winner of the special election will assume the Ward 2 council seat, that was left vacant after the removal of Tyrone Johnson as Ward 2’s councilman in February. The two candidates running for the Ward 2 city council seat in this election are Scott Bancroft and Dwayne Davis.
“Every election is special, so it doesn’t matter what election that we have—everyone is special. We’re talking about ward 2, so everyone that lives in ward 2 should care about their ward, at any given time”, said Kimesha Brown, Ward 2 resident.
Voters in line by 7pm will still be able to cast a vote, and later this evening all votes will be tallied for a result.
