Mississippi Teacher Corps offers free summer school to students

The Mississippi Teacher Corps has announced they will be offering free online summer school to students grades 7-12 across the state.

The program is said to last from June 15th to July 17th on weekdays from 9AM to 11AM. Registration ends on June 8th at 5PM.

"All instruction and summer programming have all switched online for now," said Joe Sweeney, MTC director. "So we looked for options to train our teachers and to also provide students with something to do in the summer for both credit recovery or enrichment."

The program will offer coursework and include subjects english, science, social studies and mathematics.

"We feel like we really have come together to build something great. One of the things that we sell our program on is the strength of the in-person cohort model, where you have this built-in support from your peers. So now that we can't come together in-person, we've been looking at how we can still bring that together online."

In order to participate, students need access to internet service, a computer with a microphone and camera and an email address.

“So far, we’ve got quite a few people wanting to enroll. We have seen thirty people so far who have signed up and the deadline is June 8th to register and we just hope to serve as many students as we can.”

Sweeney says students can go to mtcsummerschool.weebly.com to sign up and email mat@olemiss.edu for questions.
