MPSD honors faculty of the year Thursday
The Meridian Public School District honored their teacher and administrator of the year Thursday with a parade. The parade featured a marching band and several vehicles honking horns for the celebration.
Shannon Miller was named Principal of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. Miller has been with the district for over 20 years working various roles and has been the principal at West Hills Elementary school for one year.
“I’m so grateful to work with an amazing faculty and staff. I’m grateful for the support team that we have and for the principals I work with," said Miller. "They make the job a whole lot easier. We have wonderful parents, wonderful students and it makes this job amazing everyday.”
Mindy Mendiola was named Teacher of the Year for the 2020-2021 school year. Mendiola started her field of education at Northwest Elementary School and has been teaching math for 6 years.
“I’m very surprised and very thankful for it," said Mendiola. "I’ve been teaching here at Northwest for 6 years and that’s how long I’ve been in education--teaching math. I’ve taught all of 6th through algebra one here.”
Both women received gift baskets as well as banners to be showcased in front of each school.
