Newton Fire Departments Give Free Masks

Local fire departments in Newton County handed out washable and reusable free masks yesterday, from 12 to 2PM to any residents who were in need.

“The masks that we are handing out today," says Robby Richardson, Newton County E-M-A Director. "We have approximately 2,000 of them and these are some masks that La-Z-Boy Incorporated sewed and basically for this county.”

During these hard times, the fire departments are eager to help their residents in any way they can. Many officials came together to make this event possible.

“This was coordinated with Sheriff Pennington and Tyler McCon. They asked me to get involved to help facilitate the delivery. We went with all of the county fire departments. We have ten fire county departments and they’re all handing out masks.”

Residents were given the opportunity to drive up and request as many masks as they needed.

“We’re just trying to get as many out as we can to the residents and the different communities. We have received some from the state, supposed to be getting more from the state also, but these today actually came from La-Z-Boy.”

Fire Chief, J.C. Collins says the departments are doing anything they can to flatten the curve of the virus and there will possibly be another shipment of masks coming to the departments soon.
