Residents Remember Fallen Soldiers In Lauderdale County

Although the Lauderdale County Memorial Day Ceremony was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people still had the opportunity to stop by the front of the county courthouse and pay their respects to those who passed while serving in the military.

The granite marker in front of the courthouse has a list of names of the Lauderdale County men and women who served from World War I to present day.

“I’ve gone back and reflect on the men that we lost in our unity and kind of grieved for the families, I know that families have probably left us behind and over the years, still not having sons, daughters, husbands –come home from wars, it’s a lasting impact”, said Van McCarty, Lauderdale County Memorial Day Ceremony Committee Chairman.

In spite of the recent challenges presented, the committee is looking forward to holding the ceremony once again in 2021.
