Salvation Army opens cold weather shelter
The Salvation Army of Meridian announces they have opened up their emergency cold weather shelter for the next few days to people in need during the icy and cold conditions. This includes women and children. Staff members will be present at the shelter and meals will be served three times a day. The shelter has a total of 26 beds and has access to at least 12 cots if needed.
“They will have to wear a mask. We sanitize areas, when we are sleeping--they are 6 feet apart. So unless they're eating, showering or sleeping they are wearing their mask," said Lieutenant Tamara Robb. "We do have separate facilities for the women and children. We’re just trying to maintain a safe environment for them to stay out of the cold.”
The Salvation Army is located at 710 B Street in Meridian Robb says any paper product or toiletry item donations from the public are appreciated.
