Olympic gymnastics star, Simone Biles, shocked the world last night by withdrawing from the team final in Tokyo. The decision was made after she stumbled on her vault routine that gave her the lowest vault score in her career. Biles said that her decision was based on “protecting her mental health” and did not want her teammates to take a loss for it if she competed.
“I just felt like it would be a little bit better to take a back seat. Work on my mindfulness and I knew that the girls would do an amazing great job and I didn’t want to risk the team a medal for my screw-ups because they worked way too hard for that.”- Simone Biles
Simone is set to compete in the individual final on Thursday, but if she will get on the floor is still unknown.
The U.S. team finished with silver last night, Great Britain with bronze, and ROC with gold.
