SOUTHEAST SCHOOL HOSTS HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS RALLY FOR IT'S STUDENTS.

TODAY IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS DAY, AND OUR VERY OWN DANNY TODD VISITS A SCHOOL IN SOUTHEAST THAT’S DOING ITS PART TO BRING AWARENESS TO THEIR KIDS.

Human trafficking is one of the problems that our teenagers face in today's time. SOUTH EAST SCHOOL Talks about why it's important to them that they were chosen for this program and the importance of shining a spotlight in our teenagers’ lives to know what to look for and how not to become a victim.

KENNY WATSON- LAW & PUBLIC SAFETY TEACHER says "Our class for the past 13 weeks has been going through a human trafficking awareness program sponsored by MBI, and the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department. we're the only class in the state of Mississippi to participate in this, and one of only five classes in the nation who were chosen to participate in this."

KENNY WATSON TELLS TWIN STATES NEWS THAT THE CULMINATION OF THE HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS PROGRAM IS TO HOLD A RALLY FOR THE ENTIRE SCHOOL. STUDENTS WERE EDUCATED ON HOW HUMAN TRAFFICKERS EXPLOIT THEIR VICTIMS FOR PROFIT. THE RALLY ALSO HAD SPECIAL GUESTS FROM THE MISSISSIPPI BUREAU OF INVESTIGATIONS.

ASHLEE LUCAS- MBI: STATEWIDE HUMAN TRAFFICKING COORDINATOR says "It's so important that we're able to actually prevent human trafficking from happening. And so if the kids don't know and they're not educated on what human trafficking is, they could actually be lured and they can find themselves in a situation where they were actually being trafficked."

THERE WAS A STRONG LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE AT THE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING THE LAUDERDALE COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.

WARD CALHOUN- CHIEF DEPUTY OF LCSO says "Many of these young people are online. They are involved in the community. And people have access to them online, making them knowledgeable about human trafficking and how that works and all that's associated with it is a good thing. Knowledge is power."

SOUTH EAST SCHOOL TEACHERS TELL TWIN STATES NEWS THAT NOT ONLY IS IT AN HONOR TO BE CHOSEN FOR THE EVENT, BUT IT’S IMPORTANT TO GET THIS INFORMATION OUT TO THEIR KIDS, WHICH COULD BE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIFE OR DEATH.

KENNY WATSON added "Lauderdale County sits at kind of the crossroads of some major interstates and highways. Human trafficking victims pass through Lauderdale County. Every single day."

EVENT ORGANIZERS CALL THIS A SUCCESSFUL RALLY AND HOPE THEIR KIDS LEAVE WITH MORE KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS ALL ABOUT.
