With the start of the school semester only being two in a half month in session, The Lauderdale County School District is ensuring students don’t miss the most important meal of the day.
“We have some students that get here later in the morning than others. They get here on time, it’s just we have some that come early. We want them to have breakfast offered because we know breakfast is the most important meal of the day,” said Terry Moffett, cafeteria employee.
Breakfast is typically served once students arrive to school, but the midday breakfast is for students that may have missed the first serving period.
“Students have time between the time the buses get here until the time their classes start to come in and have a breakfast. We have some students that may drive or come with parents that don’t get here until right at time school starts,” said Terry Moffett, cafeteria employee.
Cafeteria officials say that students may not be as alert or attentive if they miss breakfast and that’s why the midday breakfast is important.
“It helps their brains to get going and helps their energy level stay up. They’re so busy. There’s so many of them playing sports and so many of them in the band. There are so many doing many things and they need that energy and it’s good for them to get that healthy breakfast,” said Terry Moffett, cafeteria employee.
