Stuff the Bus event takes place in Meridian

The United Way of East Mississippi hosted their Stuff the Bus event today at Bonita Lakes Mall and Raising Canes to collect school supplies for students in need.

Thanks to many volunteers and donors, students at the Meridian Public School District and Lauderdale County Schools have the supplies they need to began a great school year.

“We’re taking donations and taking school supplies and stuffing the bus, says student Madison Hicks. “We’re bringing them to people who don’t have the school supplies and can’t afford them.”

Because of the pandemic, supplies donated will be sanitized thoroughly before handout. In order to keep limited interaction, volunteers alternated shifts for collecting items.

“They’re supposed to be donated to us and with the school year coming up, the students need school supplies because not all people are able to afford school supplies,” says student Atasia Horn.

After all items have been collected and stuffed on the bus, the bus will be driven to the United Way Office and sent to the school districts.

The next Stuff the Bus event will be July 21st in Philadelphia located at the Community Development Partnership.
