U.S. Census Delay Due to COVID-19
The COVID-19 pandemic has left the U.S. Census put on hold. Each decade, people all across the country fill out the Census in order to have an accurate number of people in the United States. The next Census was scheduled for March 2020. According to the U.S. Census Bureau forms will be mailed out in May. The forms can be completed in three ways. With phone calls being one of those resources, forms cannot be completed at a reasonable time.
There has been a reduced number of staffing at call centers in an effort to follow social distancing guidelines. According to the bureau, call wait times have increased, affecting different languages.
The bureau announced in mid-March it would suspend its field operations for two weeks. The suspension has been extended for the remainder of April and has decided to cancel all in-person appointments.
For an easier completion, the bureau encourages people to respond to the census online.
