Woman found dead at Lauderdale County Jail

The Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department announced that a woman has died at the county jail. At a press conference, they said she was a 59-year-old white female. Officials say they found her in her cell at about 8:15 Wednesday night after she refused a dinner at about 6PM that evening. They say the woman was hanged, and found in the cell alone. She was brought into the facility yesterday, held on three misdemeanor changes from Justice Court.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation have been notified of the matter. Sollie says all evidence is being gathered for the investigation

“The inmates that were in that particular zone were locked down. We are in the process of downloading all video of the entire process of this individual being brought in the building, through the booking process and being transferred down the hall into our particular female section of our detention facility.”

Sollie says all correctional staff on duty have been offered counseling services.
